Case Study — ZIP-STRUT

Fast, flexible containment for a tight corridor installation

Penguin MEP needed a multi-service suspension solution that could handle restricted corridor access and a timber-frame build — and have it up and running in a single day.

Restricted corridor. Two containment routes. One deadline.

Penguin MEP required a suspension solution that would significantly reduce installation time while overcoming the challenges presented by a restricted corridor space and a timber-framed construction environment.

The project required substantial containment for both mechanical and electrical services within narrow corridor spaces. Due to limited access, running cable trays, pipework and associated services on a single containment route would have created significant installation difficulties.

To address this, the containment had to be split across two separate bracket systems running along the corridor — increasing the need for a suspension solution that was quick to install, easy to access, and suitable for the building's timber frame construction.

"Out of the box and up in the air in minutes!"

ZIP-STRUT — pre-assembled, delivered ready to install

After reviewing the challenges Penguin MEP were facing, we recommended ZIP-STRUT. Designed to save time on site, ZIP-STRUT is pre-assembled off-site and delivered ready to install, helping to significantly reduce installation time.

The system also offers excellent accessibility, with simple post-installation adjustment and reusable basket tabs that make future modifications quick and straightforward.

By combining the system with our Tray Clips, installers could easily position, adjust and securely fix cable tray within the multi-service strut arrangement — making the whole installation process faster and more efficient.

Using a Zip-Clip solution also gave Penguin MEP access to a wide range of fixing options, making it easy to work with the building's timber-frame construction. Before installation began, Penguin worked closely with our in-house technical team to develop the ideal combination of strut lengths, fixings and components — with UNI-Lock identified as the perfect option for the material.

"We can't believe how quick and secure these tray clips are… game changing!"

James Horton & Katie George on site mid-install

James Horton (R&D Commercial Director) and Katie George (Marketing Executive) visited the site mid-install to catch up with the installers and see ZIP-STRUT in action.

The feedback on the day was immediate — installers were particularly enthusiastic about the Tray Clip accessory, highlighting the speed and security it delivered compared to traditional methods.
